Definitions -

Cruise Night - an informal gathering of car enthusiasts who meet for the purpose of displaying their "special" vehicle and to share this interest with others.  These events are generally open to the public, without fees or dues and do not include competitions or awards.

Car Show -  an event held for those with special interest vehicles to compete with each other for awards (best of class, best of show, top 10, etc).  Winners are determined either by judging or by popular vote.  Sanctioned shows involve judging on a "point system", but most local shows are quite not so formal.
